Company description

ALMET, Joint Stock Company Hradec Králové
a company with a long tradition in making and supplying of pistons for internal combustion engines and compressors.

Piston manufacture
from various aluminum alloys, divided by silicon contents and in various construcion options:
- with in-cast carrier of the piston ring by the "ALFIN" method (molecular metal connecting).
- with cooling cavity inside the piston formed by soluble core or metal spiral
- bimetallic pistons (lower piece made from AL-alloy, with the ring part and base of steel)

We are an important sponsor on a yearly basis of the TATRA crew in the Paris - Dakar ralley.

Manufacturing assortment
Pistons within the wide products range from 32 mm to 350 mm in diam. designed for motor-cycles, lorry-trucks, auxiliary engines, compressors, ship, railway and stationary engines in various modifications.

Major customers
are maily companies from Europe, Asia and Africa, in Czech Republic TATRA, a.s. Koprivnice, KS Motor Servis CZ Ltd., Motoco a.s. Ceské Budejovice among others.

Our main foreign customers are:
MAHLE GmbH, Germany
MARTING, s.r.o. Vrútky, Slovakia
TS MOTORY a.s., Slovakia
TOMOS d.o.o., Slovenia

Quality control system

All products of ALMET company meet the stadards of ISO 9001.

The company was established in 1933 by a Czech businessman, Alois Rieger.

PRODUCT CATALOGUE

- Pistons
- Low-series-made pistons
- Casting
- Universal casting

FOUNDRY

Piston casting is performed through the gravity-based casting into the metal ingot-moulds and casting machines. The alloy is modified and degased on FDU machinery.

The main foundry operations

- melting of aluminium alloys
- pouring of the piston casts into cast iron moulds
- thermal processing of the piston casts - one level or two level thermal processing

Melting capacity about 2 100 tonnes / year

Manufacturing possibilities

casting of piston casts with in-cast steel carrier of the piston ring up to dia 300 mm, piston manufacturing with cooling cavity inside the piston, formed by a soluble core

MACHINING

Manufacturing of piston is performed:

- through precise digital-operating machines TAKISAWA ensuring precise shape of machining surface curve (constant requested shape and ovality of piston) using high cutting speeds
- through special designed machines for machining
- through self-constructed machines

PISTON SURFACE FINISHING

It's possible to deliver pistons with following surface finishing:

- hard elox
- phosphating
- graphite coat
- tinning

PISTON QUALITY CONTROL

General piston control includes following controls:

Alloy material composition - by quantometer (SPECTRO Analytical Instruments LAVLDO3A)

Cast quality - by X-ray apparatus (Seifert 225 kW with TV string with screen adjustment)

Connection of steel carrier of first piston ring with Al alloy - ultrasound test (Krautkrämer Branson USIP 12)

Piston size and shape - with Remog FMS 4210

CONSTRUCTION

Main activities:

Development and construction machinery for casting semi-finished products (ingot-moulds construction)

Construction of one-purpose special machinery for manufacturing use (preparation construction)

Technological assistance for customers

Construction section includes 2 computer workplace with 3 dimension modelling capabilities.

The main priorities of the company are to emphasise an increase in production quality, and manufacturing capacity through continuous investment to new technologies, like piston surface finishing, automation of control method and expanding manufacturing capacity of TAKISAWA line and machines for piston casting for this line.
