Company description
Akmetal Iron and Steel Foundry was established in 1963 in Istanbul, as the fifth steel foundry in Turkey. The company flourished in the rapidly expanding local market of those years to become a leading supplier of quality steel castings in the country.
Today, after 40 years in business, over 9,000 charges of the Arc furnace, equaling to 54,000 tons of steel castings delivered, Akmetal is a proud and respected name by its customers, both locally and abroad.
The foundry specializes in one-off, short and intermediate series of jobbing castings produced to the exact requirements of the individual customers. The production is relatively flexible to cater most needs. Close collaboration with pattern makers, testing and certification authorities, machining and fabrication workshops enable complete product services.
Akmetal undertook a green field investment in 1998 and built a new foundry in Tuzla, 30 km. East of Istanbul, where now the production continues on 41,000 m2 open and 7,000 m2 closed facilities.
The melt shop has total of 13 tons of molten metal capacity and can cast parts up to 9 tons net weight in most types of steel alloys. Fettling and heat treatment facilities are all under one roof. Additionally, an in-house machining workshop is also available for proof machining of the castings for testing and certification purposes.
The customer base covers a broad range of industries including machine manufacturing, ship building, iron and steel, construction, valve, food and automotive. Proof machined or finished machined, tested and certified castings are currently exported to Holland, Germany, Denmark, Austria, France, Greece, Israel and USA.
The company’s objective is to continue serving the expanding local market, but to a further extend, to increase its export share, challenging the ever-demanding levels of casting technology.
